After exploring other avenues, including attending pharmacy school, Dr. Gay went on to medical school with the intent of becoming a psychiatrist.  He graduated with Honors from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.  From there he completed his specialty training in Psychiatry at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and then at The Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital where he served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Gay is Board Certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.  His experience is quite varied serving in hospitals, outpatient clinics, a residential crisis unit, substance abuse clinics and academic medicine.  Over 6 years ago Dr. Gay moved to southern Alabama and worked there for 3 years doing both inpatient and outpatient work before moving up to Northern Alabama where he calls “home.” Prior to moving to Alabama Dr Gay had his own private practice for 10 years in a semi-rural area about 25 miles north of Baltimore, MD.   Most recently, in Northern AL, he was medical director for behavioral health inpatient units in the Shoals.  Over the past 6 years, Dr. Gay has been heavily involved in teaching medical students the fundamentals of clinical psychiatric medicine. More recently, Dr. Gay was voted preceptor of the year (academic year 2020-2021) for his teaching of medical students during their clinical rotations in psychiatry.

Dr. Gay is pleased to join Remedy Behavioral Health, in Florence Alabama where he will serve as Medical Director and provide much needed psychiatric outpatient services to those in the Shoals and beyond.
