A Few Words About Us

At Remedy Behavioral Health we are committed to providing optimal wellness to all patients by providing the highest quality of behavioral health services. We provide an integrated approach that focuses on the individual’s whole person and his or her unique psychiatric needs, backgrounds, situations, and personal goals.

Our team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and social workers/therapists provide assistance in managing psychiatric symptoms, whether conditions are acute or chronic. Remedy’s primary goal of treatment, whether in our outpatient clinic or in our facilities, is to assist in decreasing a person’s distressing psychiatric symptoms in order to improve and maximize quality of life.

Dr. Gary Gay

Medical Director
Psychiatrist

After exploring other avenues, including attending pharmacy school, Dr. Gay went on to medical school with the intent of becoming a psychiatrist.  He graduated with Honors from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.  From there he completed his specialty training in Psychiatry at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and then at The Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital where he served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Gay is Board Certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.  His experience is quite varied serving in hospitals, outpatient clinics, a residential crisis unit, substance abuse clinics and academic medicine.  Over 6 years ago Dr. Gay moved to southern Alabama and worked there for 3 years doing both inpatient and outpatient work before moving up to Northern Alabama where he calls “home.” Prior to moving to Alabama Dr Gay had his own private practice for 10 years in a semi-rural area about 25 miles north of Baltimore, MD.   Most recently, in Northern AL, he was medical director for behavioral health inpatient units in the Shoals.  Over the past 6 years, Dr. Gay has been heavily involved in teaching medical students the fundamentals of clinical psychiatric medicine. More recently, Dr. Gay was voted preceptor of the year (academic year 2020-2021) for his teaching of medical students during their clinical rotations in psychiatry.

Dr. Gay is pleased to join Remedy Behavioral Health, in Florence Alabama where he will serve as Medical Director and provide much needed psychiatric outpatient services to those in the Shoals and beyond.

Ruthann Allison

Ruthann Allison is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2013. She continued her education to complete a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016. She has been practicing in the field of psychiatry since 2016. She currently practices in the outpatient and inpatient settings. She has extensive experience in treating adults and geriatrics in Skilled Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, and Specialty Care Assisted Living Facilities.

Victoria Hargrove

PMHNP | Outpatient

Victoria Hargrove is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mississippi University for Women in 2015. She continued her education to complete a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2019. Victoria has worked in healthcare for over 10 years and has cared for patients in an acute psychiatric inpatient setting and psychiatric outpatient clinic. She has experience in managing both acute and chronic mental health disorders. 

Leah Chandler

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Leah Chandler is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Psychology. Leah received a master’s degree in Social Work from Florida State University in 1999. She has worked in the hospital inpatient system for 11 years in case management, adult psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry. Leah has also worked with at-risk youth, therapeutic foster care, Hospice care, grief support for children and adults, and in private practice.

Marchelle Gouvin

LICSW

Marchelle Gouvin is a licensed Clinical Social Worker. She graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science. Marchelle received a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 1998. She has provided clinical services in local emergency rooms, schools, outpatient clinics and inpatient facilities. She has experience as a medical social worker working with chronically ill, palliative care, and hospice clients.  The last five years Marchelle has focused her career on providing therapeutic services for adults in the outpatient setting. 

Stephani Strawn

Stephani Strawn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She graduated from the University of North Alabama with a bachelor’s in social work in 2012 followed up by her graduate degree from Alabama A&M University in 2014. Stephani has 10 years of experience working with diverse populations. She has provided care to victims of domestic violence, provided end of life counseling and medical social work, psycho education and psychotherapy through hospice, grief support, and is an adjunct professor at University of North Alabama. 

Dr. Timothy Carpenter

Psychiatrist

 Timothy Carpenter DO is a psychiatrist, board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine.  He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Mississippi in 1993.  He completed his medical education at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 1997 and his psychiatric residency at the University of California – Irvine Medical Center in 2001. After completing residency, he practiced in the Los Angeles, CA area until returning to the south in 2015.  He has practiced in Alabama since that time in outpatient, inpatient, long-term care settings. 

Dr. Suk B. Fields

Psychiatrist

Suk B. Fields is a psychiatrist, board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed his undergraduate degree at a Clemson University in 1987. Dr. Fields completed his medical education at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1991 and his psychiatry residency at William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in 1995. After completing his residency Dr. Fields has practiced in the state of Alabama and is familiar with the Shoals.

Crystal Cal

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

Crystal Cal is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2013 and continued her education to complete a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016. She has been practicing in the field of psychiatry since 2017 and currently practices in the outpatient and inpatient settings.

Christie Hale

Christie Hale is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received a Master of Science in Nursing from Samford University in 2014. Eboni Hart is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Alabama in 2015. She continued her education to complete a Master of Science in Nursing from Purdue University Global In 2018. Eboni has been practicing in the field of psychiatry since 2019 and has considerable experience in Skilled Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, and Specialty Care Assisted Living Facilities. She has extensive experience in treating children through geriatrics.

Shanquail Horton

DNP, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

Shanquail Horton holds a Doctorate in Nursing and is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received her Doctorate in Nursing from Troy University in 2020, a Master of Science in Nursing as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Alabama in 2013, and a Post-Graduate Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Liberty University in 2021. She has been practicing in the field of adult and gerontology for 15 years. She has extensive experience in treating adult and geriatric patients in skilled nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and specialty care assisted living facilities.

Dorothy Lavender

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

Dorothy Lavender is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State University in 2001. She later completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Walden State University in 2015. She has been forwarded the opportunity to provide exceptional medical and behavioral health care to the adult and geriatric population. Over the past seven years, she has tremendously enjoyed providing care to this specified population in such settings as Skilled Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, and Specialty Care Assisted Living Facilities. She takes great pride and stride to ensure that her patients receive remarkable care. 

Karen Metz

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

Karen Metz is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received an Associate of Science in Nursing from Wallace State College in 1994. Karen worked as an RN for 17 years. She continued her education to complete her Master’s Degree in Nursing Science from The University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2011. She has more than 10 years of experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, working with adults and geriatrics. Karen has 7 years of experience in treating adults and geriatrics in Skilled Nursing Facilities.

Brandy Miller

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

Brandy Miller is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 2003. She continued her education to complete her Master of Science in Nursing in 2016. Brandy has practiced in inpatient and outpatient settings, treating a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses.

Paige Westmoreland

Paige Westmoreland is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She started working as a registered nurse in 2007, gaining medical, psychiatric, and leadership experience while floating to various areas in the hospital setting. Paige continued her education, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mississippi University for Women in 2018 and her Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2020. She provides psychiatric services to patients in long-term care facilities and provides psychiatric services to the adult and geriatric population.

Kerri Wiley

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

Kerri Wiley is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She has been in the healthcare field since 2005 when she entered the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at The Medical College of Georgia. Kerri received her BSN in 2007 and graduated with highest honors. She was immediately accepted into the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the Medical College of Georgia and graduated with her MSN in 2010. She obtained board certification in 2010 through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Kerri initially practiced in internal medicine/acute care/family practice/occupational medicine from 2010-2015. Since moving to Alabama in 2015, Kerri has practiced in gerontology, with a focus in acute and chronic geriatric psychiatry.

Tationna Williams

Tationna Williams is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Al in 2015. She continued her education to complete a Master of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State University in 2016. She completed her Post Master’s Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at South Alabama University in Mobile, Al in 2022. Tationna has been practicing in the field of Psychiatry since 2022. She currently practices in outpatient and inpatient settings. She has extensive experience in treating adults and children in the outpatient setting.

Amy Coleman

Amy Coleman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She graduated from Athens State University with an undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management in 2014. Amy received a master’s degree in Social Work from Alabama A&M University in 2017. Amy has over 12 years of experience, including working as an advocate for domestic violence victims, HIV/AIDS support services, and social work in an acute hospital setting. She has experience providing direct services as a mental health therapist for adults. In addition, she has practiced as a medical social worker, with a focus in hospice care and grief support.
